Ladies and Gentlemen,
The 2004-2005 CSL Season marks a turning point in youth soccer. A new soccer alliance has been created to advance the development of our most talented youth players. For the first time ever, an outstanding international corporation, AEG, the top rated MLS Franchise, the LA Galaxy, the most outstanding USYS state association, Cal South, the finest competitive youth league in the world, Coast Soccer League, and the greatest coalition of competitive youth Coaching Directors in America today, the CSL Leagues/Clubs Directors of Coaching, have come together to work hand in hand to develop, finance and operate the most innovative player development program in America, the PREMIER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (to be known as the "PDP").
In all honesty, this program can only come about and actually work if each member of the alliance goes the extra mile necessary to not only fulfill their responsibilities under the program guidelines, but to assist each other in helping all of us fulfill our obligations.
If Cal South, Coast Soccer League and every Coaching Director, can only follow the lead of Mr. Phil Anschutz, Mr. Shawn Hunter and Mr. Bill Peterson of AEG and Mr. Doug Hamilton of the LA Galaxy, the program can only be a tremendous success and will be the model for elite player development across America. These individuals have moved heaven and earth to get this program underway and we owe them a significant debt of gratitude.
The following is a brief synopsis of the program:
The objective of the Premier Development Program is to identify, train and further develop the very elite players from Coast Soccer's Premier League as well as other selected players, not only from all of CSL but from the unaffiliated leagues as well as other selected/recommended players from other competitive leagues and teams and to continue to prepare these players for successful careers in college, MLS, professional international clubs and the United States National team programs. In order to achieve this objective, we must provide a unique all-inclusive structure that will bring out the very best of these elite athletes. The keys to being successful are:
- 1. Quality of Coaching Staff: Ensuring that each and every training session surpasses the players' expectations and is unmatched by anyone, anywhere.
- 2. Maintain Quality Control: Ensure that only elite players are invited and to keep the player pools fresh and updated with only top quality talent…therefore players will be added and dropped accordingly.
- 3. Costs: Keep it at zero expense to the participants.
- 4. Think Globally: Always strive to find and develop players that can play and compete at the finest professional clubs both at home and throughout the world.
Player Selection and Training
- 1. Identify 30 elite CSL elite players at each of the following age groups: U-16, U-17, U-19.
- 2. Use CSL Coaches at the respective ages to nominate players from their team that they believe deserve to be part of this program.
- 3. A selected committee will take all recommendations and finalize the player pools.
- 4. Utilize club, college, professional and national team coaches for training sessions.
- 5. Expose these players to international competition throughout the year.
- 6. Decide on a training schedule (frequency, time of year, length) that will maximize player development…all sessions at the Home Depot Center.
This program was designed to be driven by coaches.
In addition, we have added U23 groups to our training program and have created a program specifically designed for them
The CYSA-S Director of Coaching and the ODP Program Director, Steve Hoffman, has announced that the PDP will be the MAIN IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM for the Cal South ODP POOLS in these age groups. Cal South shall select players from the PDP Pools to represent Cal South at Regional and National events.
Sincerely,
THE COAST SOCCER LEAGUE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
